Overview

The JOY OF RESPONSIBILITY CURRICULUM is divided into three main parts:

PART ONE – for Toddlers (Age 1-3) The JOY of First Steps

PART TWO (divided into two levels) – for Young Children (Age 4 – 6)

Level One - The JOY of Early Childhood Emotions & Attitudes

Level Two - The JOY of Good Behavior

PART THREE (divided into six levels) for Kids Age 7 – 13

Level One - The JOY of Self Esteem

Level Two - The JOY of Personal Skills

Level Three - The JOY of Relationships

Level Four - The JOY of Social Skills

Level Five - The JOY of Coping Skills

Level Six - The JOY of Winning Skills

Part One—The Joy Of First Steps

PURPOSE

PART ONE of the JOY of Responsibility Curriculum is for toddlers 1 – 3 years of age. This part is based on the TEACH ME ABOUT books.

The purpose of PART ONE is to help parents begin the process of shifting the responsibility for a child's behavior from the parent to the child. The is accomplished by conveying to parents and toddlers three important concepts:

• A child's behavior affects the child and the people around him or her.

• The negative or positive effects of a child's behavior influences the quality of his or her life.

• Normal children can control their behavior and therefore can choose whether to engage in positive or negative behavior.

Part Two – Level One - The Joy Of Early Childhood Emotions & Attitudes

PURPOSE

PART TWO – LEVEL ONE of the JOY of Responsibility Curriculum is for young children 4 – 6 years of age. This part/level is based on the LET’S TALK ABOUT and HELP ME BE GOOD books.

The purpose of PART TWO – LEVEL TWO is to educate young children regarding their emotions as well as the emotionally charged situations they encounter so that they can handle these emotions and situations in positive instead of negative ways.

Part Two – Level Two-The Joy Of Good Behavior

PURPOSE

PART TWO – LEVEL TWO of the JOY of Responsibility Curriculum is for young children 4 – 6 years of age. This part/level is based on the HELP ME BE GOOD books.

The normal egocentricity of young children often leads to misbehavior that evokes negative responses from others. These negative responses can lead to a destructive cycle of negative action and reaction.

The purpose of the PART TWO – LEVEL TWO is to help break the cycle of negative action and reaction. This is accomplished by helping children replace misbehavior with acceptable behavior.

The purpose of PART THREE – LEVEL ONE is to help children understand and implement the first promise in the pledge: I promise to do my best to understand and appreciate myself. This is accomplished through the presentation of materials that teach Human Similarities and Human Uniqueness. These subjects provide an intelligent, rational foundation from which a child can develop a legitimate and realistic positive self-esteem.

The purpose of PART THREE – LEVEL TWO is to help children understand and implement the second promise in the pledge: I promise to do my best to take care of myself to the best of my ability. This is accomplished through the presentation of materials that teach Physical, Mental and Emotional Care. These subjects provide children with the information and skills they need to take good care of themselves.

These subjects provide children with the information and skills they need to develop and maintain positive relationships with others.

The purpose of PART THREE – LEVEL FOUR is to help children understand and implement the fourth promise in the pledge: I promise to do my best to treat other people the way I want to be treated. This is accomplished through the presentation of materials that teach Manners at Home and Away from Home. These subjects provide children with the information and skills they need to relate to others in an equitable and caring way that is beneficial to everyone.

These subjects provide children with the information and skills they need to handle life's challenges and difficulties in positive way.
